Every year, the scholarships, private gift from our Alumni, help higher education accessible and affordable for our students.
The ultimate success of the Rehabilitation Counseling department is the success of its students; as the stories below illustrate, scholarship and fellowship support helps our students reach full potential.
I have a passion to assist in the advancement of the personal, social and economic independence of individuals with disabilities seeking equality, employment, and overall better quality of life. I chose the field of Rehabilitation Counseling because I am living proof of what accomplishing vocational and educational goals can do for an individual’s self esteem, self worth, self confidence, and self concept. Possessing these things has improved my overall quality of life as a person with a disability and I believe through the work and community service that I provide to others with disabilities that I can be a part of making the difference in their lives as well. One of my long term goals is to teach in higher ed and I know my journey of learning and providing knowledge to others will require more experience in the rehab field and education beyond a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, therefore this opportunity for a scholarship will be the front end of my effort to maintain life long learning and accomplishing some of my long term goals. I am thankful for the opportunity and look forward to great things in the future.
Receiving this scholarship has allowed me to continue the work that I do with youth and families at Elk Hill while also continuing my studies and completing my internship. I plan to use the knowledge and skills gained in the Rehabilitation Counseling program to enrich the clinical and vocational programs at Elk Hill and open my own private practice in psychotherapy and consulting.
As a non-traditional student, I was extremely grateful to receive this scholarship! I am in the process of transitioning from the field of education to a career in counseling and the financial assistance has permitted me to give all my attention to my internship.
I was excited and honored to be chosen as a recipient of the A.D. Williams Scholarship. After graduation, and as a rehabilitation counseling professional, i will empower individuals with disabilities to aspire to their dreams.
